Former L.A. Lakers player Jerry West will host the 40th annual Los Angeles Police-Celebrity Golf Tournament on July 16. Actors Luke Wilson, Erik Estrada and Joe Mantegna are among the stars who will be participating.
The annual event features more than 30 celebrities each year, and in addition to golf, includes an open house with food and drinks and 30 police displays, such as a mobile museum, helicopters and the bomb squad. The tournament attracts 15,000 – 20,000 spectators, including golf fans and families.
The event is hosted by the Los Angeles Police Memorial Foundation, and has raised more than $13 million since 1972. Proceeds from the tournament go to medical, funeral and educational expenses.
For his part, Luke Wilson always seems ready and willing to contribute to charity events, especially those that involve some kind of fun. Wilson took part in a charity event in the past in which he raced cars to raise money for sick kids.
Admission for the tourney is $5.00. Post-tournament, there will be an awards ceremony and a barbecue dinner.
