The crew of the space shuttle Atlantis awoke to a very special greeting on Friday night. Following in the footsteps of Paul McCartney and Elton John, Beyonce Knowles recorded a special greeting for the astronauts, which was played on day 9 of the mission.

While her single “Run the World (Girls)” played, Beyonce greeted the astronauts. “Good morning, Atlantis. This is Beyonce. Sandy, Chris, Doug and Rex, you inspire all of us to dare to live our dreams, to know that we’re strong enough and smart enough to achieve them. This song is especially for my girl Sandy and all the women who’ve taken us to space with them and the girls who are our future explorers.”

Mission specialist Sandy Magnus replied with a message to Houston. “Good morning, Houston! A big thanks to Beyonce for taking some time out of her schedule to record us a greeting. We’re ready for another day here in Atlantis! Hopefully we as a team at NASA can keep our inspirational work up for the young people of America.”

Atlantis is delivering supplies to the International Space Station and is due to return to the Kennedy Space Center on July 21. This is the final mission in NASA’s space shuttle program.
