Today, Nina Dobrev took to her Twitter account and announced that singer Nelly Furtado donated a large sum to charity in support of youth and their efforts.

“Nelly Furtado donated 1,000,000 dollars to Free The Children! One Million dollars !!!!,” ‘The Vampire Diaries’ star tweeted. We can see she is very excited, as she should be. Way to go Nelly!

As we previously reported, Dobrev is co-hosting ‘We Day’ alongside Joe Jonas in support of helping young people celebrate their positive actions in making differences in their communities and around the world.

Today is the day, Dobrev, Jonas, speakers, performers and youth gather for the charity event, which also supports Free the Children, an initiative of We Day, the largest network of children helping children through education.

Dobrev also tweeted, “Patch Adams is my new hero. Love him.” It sounds like the actress is having a great time!

Be sure to check out the event when it airs Sunday, Oct. 30 at 7/8c and 10/11c on MuchMusic.
