Calling all designers who love animals: Leona Lewis is looking for an ethical designer to rival Stella McCartney.

Lewis put out the call to artists asking them to submit wardrobe ideas they think she should wear on stage. In addition to a cash prize, the winner will get to work with the singer and her team to finalize the winning outfit.

Lewis said about the competition, “I love fashion, creativity and designing my own outfits. I can’t wait to see what people come up with. I think it’s really important to support creative individuals and the future names of tomorrow. I’m passionate about animal welfare and everything I wear always holds true to this – we want to find the next Stella McCartney out there!”

Of course, the longtime vegetarian requires that all submissions be totally cruelty free. The rules say, “Designs must not require any leather or any other materials derived from animals for the finalised outfit, i.e. must be animal friendly.”

Perhaps this will inspire designers who do use animal parts to think outside the leather box.

Why Vegetarianism Makes No Sense From A Moral Perspective

I don’t consider my years as a vegetarian as a stepping-stone or prerequisite to veganism

I hope I win the ‘Pig Farmers of Tomorrow’ contest I entered (I’m vegan)

I think I’ll likely have the most interest in pigs of anyone applying, anyway.

Hopefully Jon & Tracey Stewart use their new farm for vegan education

They’ve promised classes on caring for animals and sustainable agriculture, so vegan 101 would be a great place to start.
