eBay has announced the launch of a new shopping destination, eBay.com/celebrity, that will give shoppers the chance to connect with their favorite celebrities for a good cause.

Celebrities looking to raise funds for charity have often utilized eBay’s Giving Works platform to sell merchandise, concert tickets, memorabilia and other items to help their philanthropic causes. In fact, eBay’s Giving Works platform raised $51 million in 2011 and more than $278 million since its launch for various charitable pursuits.

Market Watch reports that, “eBay Celebrity takes charitable fundraising to the next level, connecting consumers with their favorite celebrities through charity and commerce.” The same items that celebrities once listed at eBay’s Giving Works destination will now be listed at the celebrity destination. Consumers will have a chance to interact with their favorite celebrities through content, video and message boards.

Brad Pitt was happy to get on board with eBay’s new innovative technology. The actor and founder of Make it Right, an organization that builds sustainable homes, has offered up for auction a chance to attend the “A Night to Make It Right” gala at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans on March 10. An auction for a meet and greet with the star is also being held.

Pitt said of eBay’s philanthropic support, “After Hurricane Katrina, many people said the New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward could not be rebuilt, but the spirit of the Lower 9th and its residents is vibrant and resilient. Today the neighborhood is growing and alive with new homes, playgrounds, gardens and block parties. With the help of supporters like eBay and their customers, Make It Right will fulfill our goal of building 150 sustainable homes for those in this community who lost everything in the storm.”

eBay Celebrity will be adding auctions throughout November. Auctions will include memorabilia from stars like Katy Perry to benefit the American Red Cross, Hayden Panettiere to benefit The Whaleman Foundation, Tarina Tarantino to benefit Art of Elysium, and Jeff Bridges to benefit Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry Campaign(TM). Other eBay Celebrities to watch for include Christina Aquilera, Michael Cooper, Sienna Miller, Jimmie Johnson, Wladimer Klitschko and Joe Walsh.
