Vivienne Westwood is one of the most devoted designers out there when it comes to preserving the earth’s quickly disappearing forests. Even her good friends know that the perfect gift for the designer isn’t a purse. It’s 70 acres of saved rainforest from Pamela Anderson.

Now, Westwood has put quite a bit of money where her mouth is. She just donated $1.6 million dollars to the Cool Earth charity to aid them in their efforts to raise a total of 11.2 million dollars. The money will go to help stop logging in rainforests in South America.

The designer said about her efforts, “Governments… are so slow that we can’t wait for them any more. We have to get this thing moving and hope that they’ll join in. I took as much as I could afford from my company.”

Eco activists know that Westwood has hit the nail on the head. The government moves about as fast as most of us did after Thanksgiving dinner. Will you follow her example and devote any of your time or funds to organizations working to save the rainforest?
