Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, especially when it comes to Elizabeth Taylor’s jewels. The legendary actress’ jewelry collection was auctioned off Tuesday night for a whopping $115 million.
At Christie’s auction house in New York City, jewels and other items belonging to Taylor were sold, with part of the proceeds benefiting The Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation.
Known for her beauty and films, Taylor was also popular for her jewelry. A pearl necklace sold for more than $11.8 million and the 33.19-carat diamond ring given to Taylor by her ex-husband Richard Burton, who she married twice, sold for $8,818,500.
Famous items worn by the late actress like the “La Peregrina,” or the pearl, ruby and diamond necklace, went for a world-record price of $11,842,500.
Other items in Taylor’s jewelry collection included high-profile necklaces, earrings, pendants and rings. The diamond bracelet given to Taylor from Michael Jackson sold for $194,500.
Sorry you missed out? Well, the “Giant” and “Cleopatra” actress’ impressionist and modern art is slated to sell at Christie’s in London in February. Also, an online-only sale of selected items is on sale until Saturday.
Taylor died at the age of 79 in March. The screen goddess was married eight times and possessed some of the most precious jewelry pieces from famous jewelers including Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Chopard.
