Michelle Obama and White House staff really outdid themselves this year and gathered up 800 toys for the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots campaign.
While they have done the drive for the last three years, this was the biggest year for donations. The First Lady arrived at the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in D.C. with a big red bag full of toys.
Encouraging others to follow her lead, she said, “It’s not too late to donate. It’s still important to nudge our neighbors to give, give, give. We need people to bring in toys like never before.”
While at the base, the First Lady also got a surprise invitation. Like Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis, Michelle Obama was invited to the Marine Corps Ball. Lance Cpl. Aaron Leeks, the marine who was brave enough to put forth the invitation said about her response, “She said she’d love to go. Actually, she said I’d need to speak to her husband, too, but she said she’d love to.”
Talk about the ultimate date to score for a military ball!
