The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma is 200,000 meals richer thanks to country star Reba McEntire and her generosity.

McEntire made a large donation after hearing about the organization’s Food for Kids Backpack Program in Kiowa. The program provides healthy options for elementary school children, who will receive healthy, kid-friendly meals on weekends during the school year. The organization hits close to home for the singer, as she attended Kiowa High School.

“We are thankful for this generous donation from Reba McEntire,” said Rodney Bivens, executive director of the Regional Food Bank. “No child should ever have to go to bed with the pains of hunger in their stomach.”

Hunger is a major problem within the state, as one in four children in Oklahoma suffers from not eating. The organization is looking to expand its school program, so it’s available in all elementary schools in its 53 central and Western Oklahoma county service areas. The Food Bank also offers other kids programs including Kids Cafe and Summer Feeding.

McEntire, a Country Music Hall of Famer, opted not to reveal how much money she donated, but according to The Oklahoman her contribution will feed 2,300 needy families for a week. This large number speaks volumes.
