Zooey Deschanel, the “New Girl” on Fox, keeps very accurate accounting records and doesn’t have too much debt to worry about. According to TMZ, the young actress brings in approximately $95,000 a month, has minimal debt, and over $1.5 million in the bank without even considering her $1.6 mil in stocks, bonds, and other assets. TMZ reported the findings were from Deschanel’s divorce statement against Deathcab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard.

Since Deschanel is pretty well-off and keeps her debt down – her expenses monthly are $22,550– and since she has a zero balance on all three of her credit cards it is pretty easy for the star to drop $1500 a month on charity.

She supports charities like Clothes Off Our Back, an organization which auctions off celebrity clothing to benefit children’s charities, Mercy for Animals, an animal rights non-profit, J/P Haitian Relief Organization, a non-profit dedicated to helping displaced Haitian people affected by the 2010 earthquake, and many other non-profits.

Deschanel doesn’t just use her money to help charities, but also uses her voice and star power. She has signed letters for Mercy for Animals in an attempt to end chicken cruelty, starred in PSAs, and has had her music put on charity albums. Her latest musical charity endeavor is showcased on the album Every Child Within Us which raises money for the Everychild Foundation, a private philanthropic organization that helps children facing disease, neglect, abuse, poverty and/or disability.

Hopefully, Deschanel will still be able to donate her generous sum of $1500 a month to charity after her divorce settlement is finalized.

I expected better from this site. This is a big invasion of her privacy. Yes everybody else published it, doesn’t mean you have to do it as well. Just because it’s ‘public record’ doesn’t mean it has to be published. Wonder how you would feel if the situation was reversed. Divorces are tough enough without everyone knowing every single detail of your filing and now financial records.

Month one of “the year of the vegan”

News outlets are abuzz with the promise of new vegan products, celebs, and services and how that is somehow a fresh affirmation that our world is one turn closer to being fully free from animal use.

Don’t blame vegans for the shame you feel about using animals

The shame Carly Lewis claims veganism casts over her is more likely the ghosts of moral uncertainty, spectres that are more likely fish than cows, wondering how morality can possibly be used as ammunition in favour of murder.
