Some sad news for couple Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, as their dog Paulie died recently.

Yesterday, Bacon announced via Twitter about the passing of his pup, “Paulie 1999-2012. Sleep well old friend”

Sedgwick, his wife of 23 years also tweeted, “Had to say goodbye to my sweet friend Paulie today. Sleep well old boy..”

Paulie, a Rover or “Labrador deceiver” as Sedgwick called him, was rescued by the couple and recently had a decline in his health. The canine had surgery on his leg in November, but recovered successfully.

Named after Burt Young’s character in “Rocky,” and as Sedgwick, the leading lady of TNT’s hit series “The Closer” told PEOPLE in 2009, “At six weeks he reminded me of Rocky [Balboa's] brother [-in-law] Paulie. It made no sense. It was a spur-of-the-moment thing. He looked like this little tough guy who the second he came into our apartment wreaked havoc.”

The loveable Hollywood couple have received many condolences and Sedgwick expressed her thanks through Twitter, “I so deeply appreciate the kind words about Paulie.”

It’s no little known fact how much the “Footloose” star and his wife love their pet companions. The two volunteered with Animal Rescue New Orleans, after Hurricane Katrina. Bacon also narrated “New Orleans Animal Rescue,” a story told about the animals after the devastation of Katrina.
