With tickets to their upcoming tour going on sale in the next few days, as well a recently announced new album, Van Halen is back! But lead guitar front-man Eddie Van Halen has made headlines with other endeavors, and it’s not all about reuniting his band.

A few days ago, Van Halen donated 75 of his guitars to schools around Los Angeles. Taken from his personal collection, the guitars were given specifically to the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, a non-profit which believes in keeping music alive in public schools. The Foundation donates the instruments to schools so that students will have the opportunity of experiencing the many benefits of music.

Van Halen said in his announcement, “Music education and families are dealing with the economic times, and I wanted to help them. If I can help a kid discover a liking, or even a passion for music in their life, then that’s a wonderful thing. Music has provided a good life for me and hopefully it can help make life better for others with this donation.”
