Actress Dame Judi Dench has admitted to worrying about her racehorse while he is competing. Perhaps she could save some of her anxiety by letting her horse off the track and into a nice green pasture where he isn’t in danger.
Dench told Graham Norton about her colt Smokey Oakey, “I watch him on telly (television) a bit and I go and visit him but I am nervous of seeing him race in case he doesn’t come in. I’m happy when he gets back, is in his stable with his feet up eating a bit of hay.”
It doesn’t seem like the Bond star really has the stomach for a “sport” as dangerous as horse racing. She has helped to raise funds for racing welfare programs in the UK, but most animal organizations are against the practice completely. Perhaps the most notable catastrophe in racing in recent years was the death of Eight Belles at the Kentucky Derby.
If Dench loves horses as much as it seems, perhaps helping to fund equine rescue organizations would be a better and less scary use of her time.
