Talk about turning lemons into lemonade. In the wake of her divorce from comedian Russell Brand, singer Katy Perry debuted a new song, “Part of Me,” with blistering lyrics seemingly directed at her ex-husband. An example: “So you can keep the diamond ring…It don’t mean nothing anyway.” Ouch.

Perry’s performance of the song at this year’s 54th Annual Grammy Awards has fueled speculation about the so-called amicability of their split and helped propel the song to the top of the iTunes chart.

Yesterday, Perry tweeted that she plans to donate all proceeds from the song to one of her favorite charities, MusiCares. MusiCares supports the health and welfare of people in the music community by providing critical assistance with medical, personal, and financial emergencies.

This is fantastic news for those who depend on MusiCares for emergency aid. Here’s hoping Katy’s philanthropy will help mend her big, and unfortunately, broken heart.
