Last week we told you the story of Kevin McGuire, a teenage leukemia patient who asked country cutie Taylor Swift to be his prom date.

The story began when McGuire, a die-hard Swift fan, told his sister Victoria that no one would want to go to the prom with him because, “I am going to be bald, my appearance is going to change.”

That’s when Victoria decided to appeal to Swift, starting a Facebook campaign that quickly attracted the attention of 90,000 people. On the page, she wrote, “All throughout Kevin’s treatment he kept his character intact, remained playing basketball, and even started varsity football as a freshman. Kevin is the kindest, most noble 18-year-old a person could even fathom meeting, and through out his ups and downs Kevin never even questioned ‘why me?’ Nothing, and I mean NOTHING brightens Kevin’s day more than Taylor Swift. Kevin DESERVES more than anyone a special event in his life.”

It didn’t take long for Swift to hear the news, and answer on her own Facebook page. Although she turned down McGuire’s prom invitation, she offered something even better: a request to be her date at the ACM awards in Las Vegas April.

She posted:

Taylor Swift took to her Facebook page to invite McGuire to be her date at the ACM awards in April.

McGuire was quick to accept the invitation, assuming he’s healthy enough to attend. Regardless of whether Swift takes home any awards on April 1st, we think this kind gesture already makes her a big winner.

Stop calling vegan food “cruelty-free”

Many vegans proudly proclaim that their food is “cruelty-free” as though issues of justice and injustice begin and end with our use of nonhuman animals.

My Parents Forced Veganism on Me

If vegan parents don’t “force” their vegan values and beliefs on their children, society won’t hesitate to “force” standard American values instead.
