Livia Firth may be married to Oscar winner Colin Firth, but she can sure hold her own. Known for her eco-friendly efforts in the fashion world and throughout Hollywood, Firth is adding to her success, as she recently launched an eco-fashion label.
Her new collection, Livia Firth Design, encompasses a luxury line of clothing and accessories. Firth ensures her label is made with “love, fair trade rules and environmental standards in mind.”
One particular piece is the limited edition skull necklace sold at Eco Age, where Firth is creative director. Designed by artisans in Devon, they use the ancient art of cire perdue molding the accessory by hand.
“LFD has, at its heart, simplicity and glamour and a little bit of playfulness, which should always be part of our life,” Firth said.
In addition to her clothing line, Firth has teamed up with Giusy Bettoni’s global network C.L.A.S.S. (Creativity Lifestyle and Sustainable Synergy) to institute the first Green Carpet Challenge Fabric Library.
“I have known and enjoyed working with Giusy of C.L.A.S.S. for a number of years,” Firth said. “Bringing together her unparalleled knowledge of sustainable fabrics with the GCC’s continued mission to increase the profile and the possibilities of sustainable style makes huge sense.”
Firth is known in Hollywood for her Green Carpet Challenge, where she recruits top designers and A-list celebrities to create and wear sustainable designs on the red carpet. This year Viola Davis, Meryl Streep and Michael Fassbender all joined in on the green fun.
At this year’s 2012 Academy Awards, Firth even sported an eco-friendly gown by Valentino made out of recycled polyester from plastic bottles. It’s great to see her sustainable style expanding.
