WATCH: 10 Hilarious Celebrity Public Service Announcements
We’re all about good gossip, so there’s nothing we love more than when celebs speak out about causes close to their hearts, especially when they do it with a sense of humor.
With that in mind, we’ve rounded up ten of our favorite funny celeb PSAs, which tackle everything from the environment to healthcare to voting.
The folks at The CW care about the planet. In fact, they don’t just care, they actively “give a shirt.” That’s right. The actors on the channel are fighting the effects of global warming…simply by taking their tops off. “Hart of Dixie” star Wilson Bethel explains it all in this sexy, tongue-in-cheek spot, which features shirtless support from stars AnnaLynne McCord, Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Cress Williams and more. (Note: There’s nothing explicit here, but some offices might consider it NSFW.)
Celebs know as well as anyone that we all have to be proactive about our health care. Which is why TV stars Alyson Hannigan, Jaime King, Minka Kelly, Katharine McPhee and Emily Deschanel made the “Booby Scare,” a PSA about breast cancer awareness. Because really: don’t most slumber parties involve breast self-exams? (Again, this is completely clean, but it’s about breasts, so remember that if you’re watching at work.)
Health care has become a hot button issue over the last year, and insurance coverage is right at the heart of it. Lest that be forgotten, actors Jon Hamm, Will Ferrell, Donald Faison, Thomas Lennon and Olivia Wilde are speaking up (sarcastically) for the overlooked victims in the healthcare debate: the insurance companies. As Ferrell points out, “Why is Obama trying to reform healthcare when insurance companies are doing just fine making billions of dollars of profit?”
And speaking of health, preventative care isn’t just for humans. Spaying and neutering pets is also important. And that’s why animal lover Katherine Heigl is spreading the word on why she hates balls. The movie star and “Maxim 100 member” is on a mission to eradicate “terrible, terrible testicles,” which, after all, are “jiggly, crinkly, and possibly full of spiders.”
It’s no secret that the cause closest to Matt Damon‘s heart is the world water crisis. It’s why the actor founded Water.org, the charitable organization he tirelessly promotes. Although plenty of adults have heard his message, last December, Damon targeted a younger demographic: he dressed up as Santa and tried to convince kids that the hottest toy of the season was a limited edition Water.org water bottle. Hilarity ensued. Check “Damon Claus for a Cause”:
Matt Damon strikes again! During the World Cup soccer championship in 2010, stars Jessica Alba, Shakira, John Legend, Queen Rania and Damon showed their support for 1GOAL, an organization dedicated to bringing education to children around the world. However, as you can see below, Damon’s fake overdose on caffeine pills led to a lot of silly drama. From yelling about water to starting fights, Damon’s hilarious antics brought humor to an otherwise serious issue.
When it comes to tackling the world’s problems, Damon is always on hand. This time around, he teamed up with Ben Stiller, Sean Penn, Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen, Kevin Spacey, Jack Black, Kristen Wiig and Bill Clinton in a Clinton Foundation video for Funny or Die. Check out the group as they brainstorm ways to tackle global issues, from Wiig’s suggestions for a “global breathing initiative” and an “international celebrity car wash” to Damon’s plans to form a celeb softball team, complete with cheetah mascot, to Black’s ideas for a foundation theme song.
Another election year is upon us, and you know what that means: it’s time to think about the candidates and issues, and then cast your vote. Back in 2008, a multitude of stars came together to create these funny, sarcastic PSAs about the importance of casting your ballot. Check out Leonardo DiCaprio, Eva Longoria, Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford, Sarah Silverman, Jonah Hill, Ellen Degeneres, Scarlett Johannson and so many more as they persuade you to, uh, “don’t vote.” (But be warned, some of the language is definitely NSFW)
Sometimes, something so ludicrous happens that the only way to react is with humor. That’s the case here. A few years ago, in response to the National Organization for Marriage’s crazy, melodramatic Anti-Gay Marriage PSA, a host of celebs teamed up to make this hysterical parody. Check out Jane Lynch, Alicia Silverstone, George Takei, Lance Bass, Sarah Chalke, Sophia Bush and more as they work to create a huge umbrella to protect the world from the “gaythering storm.”
