California vegan food truck Seabirds is hoping to go from the road to a storefront.
Seabirds, which landed a spot on Food Network’s “The Great Food Truck Race,” has launched a fundraising campaign on Kickstarter. The Seabirds team hopes to raise $100,000 to open a storefront location in downtown Santa Ana. with an extended version of their truck’s menu – but still featuring food that sticks with their slogan “Local, Fresh, Organic.”
According to VegNews, Seabirds owner Stephanie Morgan says a restaurant will allow Seabirds to “elevate its much-loved menu and provide its customers with a more stable and comfortable dining experience.” Their Kickstarter page adds a few more reasons they’re looking to add a storefront. “In the last year and a half the Seabirds Truck has served over 50,000 Beer Battered Avocado Tacos, traveled over 20,000 miles, and driven through 6 states. We’ve burned through 10 oil changes, 3 engines, and 2 transmissions. We’ve shoveled 56,000 pounds of ice, refilled 43,000 gallons of water, and washed & chopped 3,000 bunches of local kale. We’ve had first degree burns, third degree burns, bumps, bruises and sprained ankles. Life on the road has been fun, but we think it’s time to plant some roots and have a place to call home.”
With 32 days of fundraising left to go, over $2,600 has been raised. Depending on the amount given, donors receive perks ranging from a Seabirds “Back the Birds” postcard to a flight and hotel stay for the Seabirds grand opening!
