She’s always been dedicated to making the world a better place, but now it seems that motherhood has shifted Natalie Portman‘s priorities even further away from her career.

The vegetarian actress hasn’t been very active on the Hollywood scene since the birth of baby Aleph last summer. And now it seems it may stay that way for a while, considering that her latest role has more to do with children than acting.

Portman announced today that she is now an ambassador for Free the Children, an organization that works to provide educational opportunities for kids around the world. Portman has been involved with the organization since last year, and today she released a statement about her new position.

“As a mother and the organization’s newest ambassador, I am grateful to Free the Children for giving me the opportunity to channel my passion and love of children into meaningful action that furthers the education and leadership of young women for years to come. I hope others join me in supporting this important cause.”

Portman has also worked with fashion house Dior for the past few years, and she’s utilizing that relationship for Free the Children. In a new partnership, proceeds from Dior’s Nude “Grège” n°169 lipstick (launching this Fall) will go to the organization’s project to provide secondary education for girls in Kenya, in the form of scholarships.

Now that’s a perfectly charitable example of putting your money where your mouth is.
