Ted Nugent Pleads Guilty to Illegally Killing Black Bear
Ted Nugent. These stories probably don’t surprise you readers anymore, but here goes.
Last week, Nugent was in the news for an FBI investigation into his statement that he’d be “dead or in jail” if Obama is re-elected. At the same time, he was also making headlines for his illegal bear hunt.
The rocker is no stranger to hunting troubles, pleading no contest to 11 charges of poaching in 2010. His California deer hunting license was revoked through June of this year. Now, Nugent has pled guilty to illegally killing and transporting a black bear, according to Huffington Post. He signed a plea agreement with federal prosecutors on April 14, stating that he shot and killed the bear in Alaska in 2009. The bear was killed days after he wounded another bear, violating Alaska’s limit of one bear per hunting season.
Nugent’s hunt was filmed for his show “Spirit of the Wild” on the Outdoor Channel, and took place on U.S. Forest Service property used for bear-baiting. His plea agreement states that Nugent “knowingly possessed and transported the bear in misdemeanor violation of the federal Lacey Act.” He will pay a $10,000 fine, serve a two-year probation, and he is prohibited from hunting or fishing in Alaska or on U.S. Forest Service property for one year. He has also paid $600 to the state for the bear that was illegally killed.
Nugent is also required to film a PSA to be aired during his show every other week for one year. His plea agreement reads, “This PSA will discuss the importance of a hunter’s responsibility in knowing the rules and regulations of the hunting activities that they engage in, which is subject to the review and final approval, prior to any broadcast, by a representative of the United States Attorney’s Office in the District of Alaska.”
Oh, Ted. Like I said, no surprises anymore. I’m sure you remember his comments about animal rights advocates (who he will apparently assume are all members of PETA). “My name is Ted Nugent and because of Pam Anderson… and because of Paul McCartney, all the members of PETA, whenever I hear the word animal or rights in the same paragraph, I’m killing an extra hundred of something this year. I’m not just killing them, I’m f**king slaughtering them and I’m going to gut them and skin them, quarter them and butcher them and feed them to the soup kitchens and homeless shelters of America… That’s my goal in life,” he said in 2009.
