Rock legend Willie Nelson was honored this week with the Planet Defender Award, given to those who consistently work to protect our planet.

The awards have been given since 2006 and are sponsored by non-profit Rock the Earth. They pay tribute to leaders in various categories, such as: Artist, Community Leader, and Grassroots Activist. Nelson won in the Artist category for his philanthropic work, which dates back to 1985 when he created Farm Aid along with John Mellencamp and Neil Young.

Nelson thanked Rock the Earth saying, “It’s an honor to receive the Planet Defender Award and to be recognized by an organization with similar values.”

Rock the Earth is a national non-profit environmental organization that partners with the music industry and its fans to protect and defend the natural resources in America. The other Planet Defender Awards were given to Amory Lovins (Community Leader) and Lynn Henning (Grassroots Activist).

Willie Nelson will take this year by a storm with his eclectic collaborations in his new album “Heroes”. I can’t stop listening to his new track featuring Snoop Dogg called “Roll it Up”. I can’t see what else is to come!
