This spring, Tommy Hilfiger is launching a new collection featuring pieces that have been either produced in Africa or that use locally-sourced cotton, and Katie Holmes is the ambassador. The collection, called The Promise Collection, is part of Hilfiger’s role as a Millennium Development Goal global leader. The Millennium Development Goals, or MDGs, are the world’s shared framework for development and was set forth by the United Nations in 2000.

The Promise Collection will include bold, color palettes and animal prints and will be sold in Tommy Hilfiger stores worldwide, as well as online. Profits will be invested back into Millennium Promise, the non-profit set up to help achieve the Millennium Development Goals.

In 2010, Hilfiger donated $2 million and made a visit to Uganda to see the achievements that had been made from the donation. Holmes has reportedly visited the region as well.

The world needs more vegans because more than dollars or pledges or sad-emoji riddled posts, our individual efforts can stop the demand for horns, for zoos, for animal flesh, and for the exploitation of any living being.

Criticize veganism, but don’t discredit it

Oppressive and harmful behaviour has no place in a movement rooted in anti-oppression.
