For those of you who love animals and major award shows, then you’re in luck. This weekend, Animal Planet will air The Humane Society of the United States’ 26th Genesis Awards Television Special.

The Genesis Awards is an awards show that recognizes animals and raises animal awareness of animal protection issues. TV shows, movies and documentaries are celebrated for their dedicated work in supporting animals.

If you decided to tune in, you’ll see many famous faces including Ke$ha, Colbie Caillat, Sophia Bush, Jason Ritter and “Dancing with the Stars” judge Carrie Ann Inaba, who hosted the awards.

You will also get to see Ian Somerhalder accept the prestigious Wyler Award for his animal rights work. Each year the award is given to “a celebrity or public figure who has made news on behalf of animals.” If you know Somerhalder, he is constantly rescuing and defending animals.

This is truly the only awards show that focuses on animals and puts them in the spotlight. The TV special will air on Saturday, May 5 at 4 p.m. EST, with an encore on Sunday, May 6 at 8 a.m. EST.

Guys, extortion isn’t an effective form of vegan advocacy

Assuming we can extort people into respecting the lives of others makes no sense.
