Comedy lovers breathed a sigh of relief this week when NBC announced renewals for fan favorites “Community” and “Parenthood.”

Now, in a new interview with the Hollywood Reporter, stars Joel McHale and Dax Shepard talk about their shows, their fans, and going green — something McHale needs a little help with.

In the interview, McHale mentions running into Shepard’s fiancee, Kristen Bell, at a Gelson’s grocery store, and her reaction to his environmentally-unfriendly shopping habits:

McHale: I saw your wife at Gelson’s [supermarket], and she lectured me about getting plastic bags.

Shepard: She did. That’s very her.

McHale: Totally lectured me.

Shepard: She was probably carrying around our big, green Costco bags.

McHale: Yeah, and I think I had a whole roasted chicken, and I was like, would you like some? And she said no, I’m a vegetarian, and I’m like, there’s a surprise!

McHale: But your wife is lovely, let me say that.

Shepard: She’s the greatest of all time.

Considering that Bell is one of Hollywood’s most outspoken animal lovers, it’s a bit of a shock that McHale didn’t know about her veganism. And no, Bell and Shepard haven’t tied the knot yet, despite McHale referring to her as Shepard’s wife. Hopefully they’ll plan a green, vegan wedding extravaganza one of these days!
