Gucci to Launch Sustainable Soles Line
Inspired by the Copenhagen Fashion Summit which happened earlier this month, Gucci creative director Frida Giannini has designed a new line of eco-friendly shoes which will launch in Gucci’s stores and online in June.
The new Sustainable Soles line includes one style for both women and men and both incorporate biodegradable plastic. The women’s shoe is a ballerina flat and will be available in three colors while the men’s style is a sneaker and will be available in both a high and low-top. The sneakers have bio-rubber soles, however, the upper part of the shoes are calfskin. While Gucci isn’t promoting the Sustainable Soles line as vegan, certainly there are other options out there to make them more eco-friendly.
There doesn’t seem to be any discussions yet about expanding the Sustainable Soles line beyond these two styles, but rumor has it the company is getting ready to introduce sunglasses made from “liquid wood.” We’ll be waiting.
