It’s no secret that actress Sophia Bush has a huge heart, especially when it comes to animals. In her most recent act on behalf of all things great and small, she recently rescued an adorable seven-week old blue pit bull named Griffin.

Griffin and his siblings, a litter of eight, and their stray mom were set to be euthanized, but luckily the shelter Wags and Walks, a pit bull rescue facility, stepped in and saved the bunch. I guess you could say Bush fell in love with Griffin and couldn’t resist taking him home.

“He’s the sweetest, most mellow little guy,” Bush told PEOPLE. “He just wants to snuggle and kiss everybody. And his feet are so big that he trips over them when he runs. We call him dinosaur paws.”

This isn’t the first time Bush has adopted dogs. She has two other pit bull rescues named Penny and Patch. “They’re the loves of my life,” Bush told PEOPLE in a 2011 interview.

It’s nice that Griffin will have some friends, or should I say siblings, to play with. He’s receiving all sorts of love. Bush also gushed about her new love on Twitter, “The newest addition to my family. World, meet Griffin. My heart is bursting. #AlwaysRescue. [sic]”

“I can’t encourage people enough, please don’t buy animals. Please, please adopt,” she said. “I think it’s ridiculous to support over-breeding, puppy mills, cruelty in any avenue – when there are thousands of dogs a day getting put down because no one wants them. And rescue dogs are always nicer than purebred dogs, anyway.”
