Rob Thomas has been a longtime supporter of animal rescue organization Pets Alive. He and his wife Marisol, who sits on the Board of Directors, have made donations, hosted fundraisers, and made visits to the Pets Alive sanctuary in Middletown, New York. They have also helped the rescue with funding through their foundation Sidewalk Angels, which also provides aid to various causes like childhood healthcare and fighting homelessness.

The rescue writes on their site, “Marisol and Rob Thomas have been Pets Alive biggest supporters for the past few years. As a result of their support we have been able to save many animals, improve living conditions, hire extra staff and continue as a no-kill sanctuary. Without the support of Marisol, Rob, Matchbox 20 and their dedicated fans, Pets Alive might well have closed down in late December.”

Pets Alive also has an organization in Puerto Rico, and Thomas tweeted a call for donations yesterday. “Happy Puerto Rican day! In honor, you should donate (if u can) to this is our PR rescue, ollie!!! pic.twitter.com/9LZT7Gc0,” he writes. Ollie’s cute little face and floppy ears will probably convince you.

The organization says on their site,”Pets Alive Puerto Rico was born from Manos Por Patas, a rescue group working in the Yabucoa area and focusing its efforts on ‘Dead Dog Beach’ – nicknamed that by the locals.  Dogs are dumped at Dead Dog Beach by people who are unwilling or unable to care for them any longer. Left to fend for themselves, the dogs become sick and emaciated.  Sadly, they are sometimes subjected to further suffering at the hands of abusers.  As the name implies, many dogs die here.” The Puerto Rico sanctuary was opened with a grant from the Sidewalk Angels foundation.
