PETA Gives Alec Baldwin Bull As Wedding Gift
Last weekend was quite the whirlwind for Alec Baldwin: he married fiancee Hilaria Thomas, received an unusual wedding gift, and said so long to social media.
Baldwin and Thomas tied the knot on Saturday, and in honor of the occasion, PETA rescued a bull in his name. The “30 Rock” star is a longtime supporter of the animal-rights group, and they recognized his contribution to their cause by saving an Indian bull from a lifetime of servitude.
The bull, initially named Raja, belonged to an Indian sugercane farmer and worked as a pack animal, pulling a cart. Now renamed Baldwin Thomas, the animal has been relocated to a sanctuary.
According to Contact Music, a PETA spokesman says that Baldwin Thomas, “will now spend the rest of his days in peace, relaxing at Animal Rahat’s sanctuary in Maharashtra.”
“Alec is a strong person you don’t mess with, and he’s a vegetarian, as is Baldwin Thomas. The couple who have everything now have a rescued bull whose newly found happiness reflects their own,” adds PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange.
As if that weren’t big enough news for one weekend, E! reports that Baldwin has also bid farewell to his popular Twitter feed.
Baldwin is well-known for utilizing the social media site to gain support for various causes and for his rants against the media. He deactivated his account on Monday, with his final status proclaiming, “It’s been fun.”
Yes, it has. Here’s hoping he’ll take a page from fellow animal-lover Miley Cyrus and reactivate that account soon.
