Watching a stranded animal scrounge and starve is enough to pull at anyone’s heart strings. That is the imagery behind a powerful new Greenpeace video staring a homeless polar bear wondering the streets of London.

The clip, featuring music from Radiohead and a voiceover by actor Jude Law, encourages individuals to join Greenpeace’s campaign to “Save the Arctic” and help polar bears before they become homeless.

The need to protect the natural resources in the Arctic region has come under close watch in recent months as many major oil companies have continued to show an interest in exploring their options. With already record low levels of sea ice occurring, this could mean an even faster depletion of the polar bear’s habitat, leading to an increase in cannibalism within the species and threatening their existence.

Radiohead’s lead singer, Thom Yorke stated, “We have to stop the oil giants pushing into the Arctic. An oil spill in the Arctic would devastate this region of breathtaking beauty, while burning that oil will only add to the biggest problem we all face, climate change. That’s why I’m backing this campaign.”

Jude Law and Radiohead are adding their names to a host of other celebrities have taken up the cause protecting the Arctic. Jason Mraz recently spoke out after visiting the region early this year and Edward Norton was very vocal at the recent Rio+ 20 Earth Summit about the need for biodiversity protection.
