Later next month, a host of charitable and influential celebrities will hit the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica to celebrate and honor those nominated for the 2012 Do Something Awards.

“This is the show that recognizes famous people for what they do, not what they look like or how well they sing,” said Nancy Lublin, CEO and (hilariously titled) Chief Old Person of DoSomething.org.

Leading the pack of nominees with two each are Selena Gomez (for her work with UNICEF), Justin Bieber (for helping build schools), and razz-favorite Ian Somehalder (for his environmental efforts). Other in contention include Kristen Bell, Ben Affleck, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Nicole Richie, Neil Patrick Harris, Channing Tatum, Emma Stone, and many more.

This year’s list of celebrity nominees is incredible, but no matter who wins, we are really here in celebration of the amazing young people who have accomplished so much.” added Tom Calderone, President, VH1. “This is the largest and most prestigious prize in the world for young people and social change, and we’re proud to share the presentation with our viewers.”

The event will air Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 9:00pm EST on VH1. To vote for your favorite nominated celeb, hit the official site here.
