Katie Holmes Shops with Suri for Post Divorce Pup

Katie Holmes was seen escorting daughter Suri Cruise into and out of a New York city pet boutique this past weekend, where the pair reportedly checked out both French bulldog and Morkie puppies – both pretty gosh darn high on the scale of Cute.

Holmes could be hoping that a fluffy-faced confidant will help five-year-old Suri through the difficult process of her parents’ divorce; a pet can provide frightened children with purpose, stability, unconditional love, and an undemanding, floppy ear.

Although Suri may have been crying when she and her mother left the boutique empty-handed, we’re glad they did leave alone: perhaps Holmes was just measuring Suri’s reactions to the adorable purebreds and will eventually adopt a rescued pup. Purchasing from boutiques or breeders often supports systems based on cruelty, but as North Shore Animal League America spokesperson Devera Lynn reminds us, “If you go to a shelter, you’re going to find beautiful, healthy puppies, even purebreds. Not only that[, but] you will also be saving a life.”

If you, too, are hoping to add padding paws to your home, remember you have the power to be a hero by adopting from a shelter.

Maybe the next time Katie and Suri are out walking together, they’ll have a grateful four-footed companion embarking on a new life!

How surprising that Katie isn’t aware of the pet store/puppy mill connection and the millions of innocent, healthy loving dogs that are destroyed in shelters. But then again, we shouldn’t be too surprised that someone formerly married to Tom Cruise, as well as a former practicing Scientologist…isn’t going to be very grounded in reality. Guess she needs to start hanging out with and be influenced by the “right” Hollywood people who realize that puppies aren’t products and consolation gifts…and that you don’t need a trendy dog from a pet boutique in order to validate yourself.

This is a joke right? With all that is known now about the pet store/puppy mill connection, if she BUYS a dog it will prove to me Tom Cruise divorced her on grounds of stupidity. Come on Katie, ADOPT! RESCUE! That is the ONLY option right now. You buy a dog, your are giving money to animal abusers and trust me, you will lose thousands of fans. Yes, 99% of dogs in pet stores or sold over the internet come from barbaric puppy mills!

Watch this PSA and learn! (no violent images, just a bunch of kids, but you’ll get the message). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQIOu1xpIuw

George Clooney, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Aniston, Ryan Gosling and a slew of other celebrities know how important adoption is when we are killing over five million beautiful, loving, healthy dogs a year in this country. Please Katie, show us how smart you are and do the right thing! ADOPT!! RESCUE!! Hell, I’ll help you find the perfect pup! Facebook me!

Katie, adoption is a way to save a life. There are so many purebred dogs who are dumped in shelters every single day and so many breed-specific rescues all over the country. But if you feel you must get a “designer dog” do your homework and choose a responsible breeder; one who retires their sires/dams early, who always takes back a pup if necessary, who breeds for health and temperament, who fosters a family environment for sires/dams and pups, who does genetic testing, and who won’t sell to a pet store, an online website, or ship a pup to you. And last but not least, this PSA from Jennifer Peterson is worth a view…pet stores encourage puppy mills and the suffering of sires/dams the world over. When you stop buying and educate others, lives are saved. :)

No responsible/reputable breeder would breed mutts!

Well, I already posted once to this site but since it hasn’t shown up yet, will do so again!

Katie, is this story a joke? I hope so! if not, then we all know the truth, Tom Cruise divorced you for stupidity! I can’t believe in 2012, with all that is known about the pet store/puppy mill connection, you or anyone would buy a dog when we’re killing over five million beautiful, healthy, loving dogs a year in this country. ADOPT! RESCUE! That is the ONLY option. Seriously Katie, if you BUY a puppy you’ll lose thousands of fans in a millisecond. Trust me.

George Clooney, Ryan Gosling, Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, the list goes on and on – these are celebrities that get it! They adopt! They save lives! When you buy from a pet store you are giving money to animal abusers and the parents of your cute puppy? They will be stuck in a small wire box, forced to breed at every cycle, never touched or loved, then tossed out to die when no longer needed. As long as people buy this horrific cycle will continue. Be part of the solution, not the problem! Adopt! Rescue! Save a life! I trust you will do the right thing! And if you need help finding the perfect pup, Facebook me!

It’s so great to hear that Katie Holmes and Suri may be adding a new, four-legged addition to their family! We at the ASPCA encourage them to consider pet adoption as their first option, rather than buying from a pet store. This is because most pet store puppies come from puppy mills – you can find out more at http://www.NoPetStorePuppies.com.

All you need to do is search “puppy mill” and there’s tons of information at your fingertips..not just from the ASPCA. That includes more effective organizations that haven’t been the only game in town for so long, therefore work harder. Times are a changin’. It’s more about the animals than the greed and egos of organizations and their annoying, phony P.R…see below.

All one would need to do is google “puppy mill” to find a wealth of information about the pet store/puppy mill connection and the advantages of adopting from a shelter or rescue group.

There is no such breed as a Morkie!

You’re right. And don’t let the fact that a Google search turns up several pages of results. You’re absolutely right and don’t let anyone change your mind.
