The 2012 Teen Choice Awards were last night, and animal lover and perennial favorite Ian Somerhalder was on hand to scoop up a handful of wins. Before that, though, he took the time to tweet support for one of his favorite causes.

While on the way to the event, Somerhalder shared this with his 2 million followers: “Just passed a DOG ADOPTION place on my way to Teen Choice Awards called Unleashed-ITs onSUNSET BLVD@FULLER.PLS go!Some awesome little ones.”

That’s just one of the reasons we love this guy. Even in the midst of celebrating his accomplishments, he’s focused on helping animals and making the world a better place. According to his Twitter feed, he’s also still working hard at making his sanctuary dreams come true, tackling the recycled furniture business with his brother, and working on his partnership with Go Green Mobile Power.

As for the awards, Somerhalder collected several surfboards. “The Vampire Diaries” won for Choice TV Show: Fantasy/Sci-Fi and Somerhalder snagged wins for Choice TV Actor: Fantasy/Sci-Fi and Choice Male Hottie.

Congrats, Ian!
