Actress and activist Alicia Silverstone is helping spread the word on a new Green Dorm Makeover Contest from the organization, Teens Turning Green.

The contest is open to all students ages 18+ to create the ultimate green dorm living space. The contestants must use the popular social media site, Pinterest, to create a board filled with their eco-friendly finds. Each pinned item has to include a description about what makes the item green and the board itself must contain 25-50 pins.

The #GreenDorm contest runs from August 1 through September 3, 2012. A team of esteemed judges will then jury the entries and announce first, second, and third place winners by September 7. Students can visit the Teens Turning Green website to sign-up and get started.

Silverstone tweeted to her fans Wednesday, saying, “Project green dorm makeover contest ow.ly/cFOU9 starts today… better start pinning! @teensturngreen#backtoschool #college

The group at Teens Turning Green excitedly replied with, “So, @AliciaSilv is behind our latest program… are you in on Project #Green Dorm + our #GreenDorm makeover contest? teensturninggreen.org/programs/dorm-…

It really is great to see celebrities give their unsolicited support to various and worthy causes!
