After Jared Leto posted a picture of himself posing with Ian Somerhalder at a fundraiser for President Obama, MTV asked the question, “Who’d You Rather: The @IanSomerhalder/@JaredLeto Edition.”

Leto joked back via twitter, “IAN. Done myself plenty.” While that’s an image I think many of us enjoy (as if those two standing together isn’t gift enough), we’d like to take a moment to appreciate the two mega activists who united at a fundraiser for President Obama. You can be sure that political activism isn’t the only thing they have in common.

Somerhalder and Leto are both animal lovers. Leto is a passionate vegan, supports organizations like WildAid, and takes to his twitter to speak out against things like fishing trawlers. Somerhalder of course has his own foundation that unites youth to fight on behalf of animals and the planet. He is incredibly vocal on his twitter account about issues facing dogs and cats, wildlife, farm animals, and more. Plus, he’s opening his own animal sanctuary.

Both are also active environmentalists. Somerhalder is the U.N. Goodwill Ambassador for the environment, has organized massive clean up efforts, and regularly advocates for the planet.

“The Vampire Diaries” star told us about the importance of every day decisions, “If we shift our understanding that every choice we make shapes our environment, we see that our consumer choices are exceptionally powerful. If you think about a product’s story before you consume a product, it’s easier to make sustainable choices.”

When Leto released his video about the arctic and climate change, he said this about saving our neglected earth, “We all know by now that our planet is in deep trouble. We have abused it horribly and we are paying the price. It’s time to try to do what we can, both as individuals and collectively, to find better and kinder ways to live. It’s not our right; it’s our responsibility. We are all guilty. We can all change,”

The two also take a heavy interest in human rights issues. The 30 Seconds to Mars singer wrote a book on Haiti to raise funds for the country after the earthquake.

It’s no surprise these two artists got together for a common cause (to reelect the president.) We do hope they’ll team up on more joint efforts. We know one thing for sure. When it comes to MTV’s question, who would you rather, we just can’t decide.

Going vegan must be at the heart of any environmental discussion.

Why it doesn’t matter if the Impossible burger is healthy

The Impossible burger doesn’t need to be overtly healthy – it just needs to be vegan.
