Hurricane Isaac is quickly making its way toward Louisiana and Ian Somerhalder is not happy about it.
The animal activist is worried the tropical storm will ruin his chances of stopping a land developer from plowing the potential land meant for his animal sanctuary.
On Sunday, he tweeted, “Damn hurricane get’n in the way of me going down to Louisiana to fight to preserve the ISFsanctuary land from be’n destroyedby a development. [sic]”
“The Vampire Diaries” actor hasn’t had an easy time building his latest project, as he has struggled raising enough money to back the animal sanctuary, which is a shame.
If built, the animal sanctuary will be a refuge not only for animals, but human bullies. It offers a compassionate place for those who act out against others to transform their lives and teach them how to be kind through animal care.
“We cannot progress as a society, as a people, if we lack compassion,” he told PEOPLE. “[This place] is not only protecting animals, but allowing kids to come from all over the country, hopefully all over the world and showing them compassion with these animals that have also been abandoned, also have behavioral issues and have been ostracized.”
We wish Somerhlader the best of luck and crossing our fingers Hurricane Isaac doesn’t commit too much damage or harm human lives.
