While most of us go into debt from throwing a wedding, celebrities tend to make a profit from things like selling the images of their big day to gossip magazines.

Thankfully, Anne Hathaway is kind enough to share the wealth. She donated a portion of the profits to organizations working to legalize marriage for same sex couples.

The actress has long been a supporter of gay rights. In 2008 she was given an award for her known position as an ally to the cause by the Human Rights Campaign.

We do love that Hathaway’s own wedding will help to legalize marriage for all loving couples. Currently only Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, Iowa, Washington and Washington D.C. allow same sex couples to get married. Hathaway, who has a gay brother, obviously wants the right to be extended to all people.

According to Contact Music, she also donated some of the profits to other causes including the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children’s Research and The Girl Effect.
