Robert Redford Records 5 New Anti-Fracking Radio Ads
Robert Redford is lending his voice to the growing anti-fracking movement in New York State, encouraging listeners in a new series of radio ads to support a ban on the controversial natural gas extraction process.
“This is Robert Redford,” he says in one ad. “New York faces an urgent decision: Whether to begin hydraulic fracking, a process that blasts toxic chemicals into the ground to release natural gas. It would be a dangerous mistake. Fracking is a bad deal for local communities.”
The 76-year-old goes on to argue that natural gas will do little for our energy independence and will, instead, likely be exported to countries like France where fracking is banned.
The ads were created in partnership with actress Debra Winger, “Gasland” director Josh Fox, and Catskill Citizens for Safe Energy.
