For all of you losing sleep the last year or more over when Buckingham Palace might announce that the royal couple was expecting, this moment is for you.

Ok, not really, since it’s got to be a terrible thing to have the world agonizing over your personal family decisions, but such is the royal media theater. All we can say is congrats – and we hope the best for Kate and William and growing family.

In a statement on the couple’s website, they said: “Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby.

“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news.”

Middleton, unfortunately, is experiencing some rough morning sickness; so much so that she was admitted this morning to King Edward VII Hospital in Central London with Hyperemesis Gravidarum. The condition, described as “extreme, persistent nausea and vomiting during pregnancy,” can lead to dehydration, physical and emotional stress and hallucinations.

“As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter,” Palace officials said.

As this is once again expected to be a major point of interest in the lives of the royal couple, expect them to possibly use a similar charity angle as they did with the 2011’s much ballyhooed royal wedding. During that event, in lieu of gifts, the couple asked for donations to charities – from wildlife conservation to education. In total, they raised more than $1.6M for 26 organizations.

“These causes are close to their hearts and reflect the experiences, passions and values of their lives so far,” the website read at the time. “Having been touched by the goodwill shown to them since their engagement, they have asked that anyone wishing to send them a wedding gift consider doing so in the form of a donation to the fund.”

Might Kate and William try something similar in lieu of baby gifts?

Either way, we wish them the best as they go through this amazing experience together. Now the real rumors start: boy or girl?

Stop calling vegan food “cruelty-free”

Many vegans proudly proclaim that their food is “cruelty-free” as though issues of justice and injustice begin and end with our use of nonhuman animals.

If you’re a vegan who has had to deal with this, and especially if you come from a background of being abused in other ways, you are absolutely not alone
