Wish there was a vegan character on television who you could relate to and who brought veganism to the masses? That’s what Joanne Rose hopes to accomplish with her campaign on Mobcaster to raise funds for the sitcom “Sex and the Single Vegan.”

Working with Oscar nominated actor and fellow vegan, Eric Roberts, Rose is raising funds on Mobcaster to make her single vegan gal sitcom a reality. But, in order to do that, she needs to raise $20,000. It’s an all or nothing deal. If she raises $19,999, she gets zip.

Rose, who is the creator/writer/actor/producer behind the project, told us about her motivation for creating “Sex and the Single Vegan.” “I have been a dedicated vegan since 1994. While there are many serious sides to being a vegan, I wanted to show the lighter side of things by creating the first ever sitcom centered around the life of a vegan. Laughter is part of a healthy lifestyle too.”

When people think of veganism, so many imagine humorless hungry people crying over the deaths of billions of animals. It’s nice to see a comedy that highlights all of the wonderful, delicious and fantastic parts of veganism.

So, what’s the show about? According to the Mobcaster campaign,”Jennifer Richards (played by Joanne Rose) is a single vegan woman in Los Angeles going through a 30’s crisis. She blogs about the misadventures of her dating life by rating her dates in accordance with food metaphors. Then one day her blog goes viral. After an outspoken rant on national TV, Jennifer becomes entangled with a top-notch pastry chef named Michael Pierce. Meanwhile producers from a struggling TV network have been following Jennifer’s blog. If her blog became a TV show on the network it could boost its viewership. Jennifer has suddenly been deemed an expert by the public in the field of dating.”

Eric Roberts gave us an exclusive (and beautiful) scoop on why he got involved with “Sex and the Single Vegan.”

He wrote to us:

We love animals.
The idea that we even consider harming them is unthinkable Breaks my heart.

How lucky we are to have such delicious and nutritious options!

This is a cry for help…From me to you.
And this is a situation where we need not feel helpless!
Every little bit we do helps.
It’s all about kindness.
Kindness to animals is a great start towards a more peaceful world
and peace within.
