In what looks to be an annual tradition, Michelle Obama participated again this year in a White House donation drive for the Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots initiative.
With her red sack in tow and Jill Biden by her side, the first lady delivered over 900 toys to military families, and also thanked them for their service.
She said, “Military families are what inspires my work.” She continued, “Somehow you’re always the ones who find the extra hours in the day to give back, above and beyond what life has thrown your way anyway.”
Last year, the first lady used the opportunity to encourage others to give this holiday season. She said, “It’s not too late to donate. It’s still important to nudge our neighbors to give, give, give. We need people to bring in toys like never before.”
Last year, 800 toys had been their record number of donations thus far. But this year, with an additional 100 toys collected by White House staff, they beat their personal best. Next year, perhaps they’ll even reach 1000.
