Super Bowl 2013 Menu Packed with Thousands of Pounds of Meat

Super Bowl XLVII is getting meaty, and no, not with the players, but with its official menu. It looks like this year’s menu is paying tribute to New Orleans, since the championship game will be played at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Centerplate, the largest hospitality food provider in North America for sports stadiums and convention centers, is catering the sports event and revealed that its menu definitely won’t skimp on the shrimp or meat.
The Daily Meal details the menu and dishes include: Alligator Chili, Roast Beef Debris Po’Boy, BBQ Shrimp and Grits, Chicken and Sausage Gumbo, Natchitoches Crawfish Pies, Chef Donald Links’ Chicken Sauce Piquant and Bayou Bootleg cocktails.
It looks like the major event is not including vegetarian dishes, and the amount of food (aka meat) turns out to be quite astonishing.
According to TMZ, the food averages out to the following:
-18,000 pounds of smoked pork
-10,000 pounds of Gulf Shrimp
-3,000 pounds of alligator sausage
-1,200 gallons of chicken piquant
-700 gallons of traditional Cajun gumbo
-440 gallons of red beans & 6,000 pounds of rice
Wow! Now, that’s not only a lot of food, but a gluttonous amount of meat. It wouldn’t hurt to throw in at least one or two plant-based dishes for veg fans.
James Beard Award-winning chef Donald Link is to thank for the NOLA-inspired dishes. This is also the 13th year Centerplate will serve the Super Bowl.
