Animal Planet's 2013 Puppy Bowl Participants Find New Homes
Perhaps Animal Planet should turn this into a weekly series.
The network announced today that all of the animals featured during its record breaking Puppy Bowl IX marathon Sunday (21 kittens from a New York shelter for the halftime show, and 63 puppies from 23 shelters nationwide) have been adopted.
More than 12.4 million people tuned in for the showdown of cuteness over the course of its 12-hour loop – up more than 43 percent over last year’s 8.7 million total. On Twitter, the Puppy Bowl was the most-buzzed-about show in all of cable, having the most Tweets all day Sunday and coming in second overall only to the Super Bowl. According to a release, celebs like Steve Martin, Miley Cyrus, Zach Braff, Martha Stewart and Mandy Moore all helped boost awareness for the event.
Not surprisingly, the show also received a giant boost from the Super Bowl blackout, with 1.1M tuning in from 8:51-9:00 PM – a 54% increase from the previous segment.
According to an AP article, producers of the event are exploring ways to incorporate older dogs into the festivities “since shelters have more trouble finding homes for them than they do puppies and kittens,” executive producer Melinda Toporoff said.
