PETA Celebrates Vegan Designers, Debuts New Vegan Logo
It’s an exciting time for cruelty-free fashion. Today, all-vegan clothier, Vaute Couture will grace the catwalks of New York City’s Fall Fashion Week, showing fashionistas everywhere that no animal need suffer for a killer winter coat or foxy ensemble.
And in the United Kingdom this week, PETA launched their first-ever UK Vegan Fashion Awards, honoring the best innovations in ethical British fashion. The celebrity judges including Sadie Frost, awarded outstanding vegan items ranging from couture to more affordable finds. Among the winners were familiar names like Vivienne Westwood and Stella McCartney, as well as new faces, like Bo Carter, who won for Most Talented New Designer.
The awards also launched PETA’s new PETA-Approved VEGAN logo, which designers and retailers can use to identify vegan clothes and accessories that they sell online or in stores.
“It’s phenomenal how many retailers and top designers are using pleather, micro-suede, and faux cashmere in their collections, and the quality is amazing…. [and with] ethical consumerism on the rise retailers need to respond by using compassionately produced materials if they don’t want to be left behind,” said Frost.
With the positive response from designers, fashionistas, and consumers alike, it’s promising that PETA might launch the awards or logo in the United States and beyond, as well. Anything that makes shopping for cruelty-free duds easier is a win in our book.
