Sometimes children see the world more clearly than adults. That seems to be the case with Salma Hayek’s daughter who is on a mission to raise funds to save chimpanzees, and to convince her parents to do the same.

After Valentina, Hayek’s daughter, met with activist Jane Goodall, she started thinking about the world in a very different way. Suddenly, all around her were opportunities to help save chimpanzees.

OK! reports that Hayek said, “Since then everything she counts in a chimpanzee-saving kind of a measure (sic)… She doesn’t want me giving anything away because it’s like, ‘No, they should pay and then with the money we can save another chimpanzee’.”

So, how does Valentina feel when mom buys an expensive new purse? The elder Hayek gets reprimanded. The actress said, “If I get a new bag, she goes, ‘How many chimpanzees do you think we can save with the money you spent on that bag?’ It’s terrifying.”

We have to agree with Valentina. When a celeb walks around with a $5k bag, it’s hard not to think, what else could have been done with that money. At least with Valentina around, we know the Hayeks will be helping support the cause for chimps.

Please stop attempting to express love through animal exploitation

While I’m a huge sucker for the sweet stuff, I can’t escape the seasonal dread of seeing lovers carelessly link up gestures of romance with animal exploitation.
