Her fans know and adore her as Dr. Temperance Brennan on “Bones,” but the animal world loves Emily Deschanel for her animal activism and veganism.

Most recently, she teamed up with PETA asking others to ditch dairy and take a stand against the cruel dairy industry.

“As a mother, I experience the joy of raising my son everyday, but not all moms are so lucky,” she says in the video.” Like human mothers, cows carry their young for nine months and have strong maternal instincts and their calves would naturally consume their milk for almost a year.

“But, mother cows on dairy farms have their young traumatically torn away from them shortly after birth so the milk meant for their calves can be sold to people instead.”

She goes on to say cows are repeatedly artificially inseminated and are constantly pregnant with their young being ripped away from them after each birth. If that’s not enough, dairy farmers genetically manipulate and drug cows forcing these creatures to produce up to four-and-a-half more times milk than they would naturally produce.

After birth, male calves are usually shipped off to be butchered, while female calves will suffer from the same fate as their mothers.

Some might think diary is healthy for them, but according to PETA and Deschanel, it’s not. The actress notes cows milk is not meant for humans, and can lead to all sorts of health ailments including allergies, acne, diabetes, cancer and obesity.

Deschanel hopes people will take this seriously and do something about it. She asks everyone to go vegan and eliminate dairy from their diets. You can still have milk, yogurt, cheese and ice cream, but without the dairy. It’s better for you and the animal world.

If you want to join Deschanel’s cause and all of the mothers trying to put a stop to the cruel dairy industry, head on over to PETA and sign a petition to go vegan.

I wish celebrities would start teaming up with someone besides PETA. There are many organizations out there that are way better.
