Morris the Cat is running for Mayor. Morris, an 11-month-old black and white kitty in the Mexican city of Xalapa (population: 450,000), is ready to take on the other mayoral candidates. His campaign slogan: “Tired of Voting for Rats? Vote for a Cat.”

Morris’ human guardian, Sergio Chamorro, told The Associated Press, “He sleeps almost all day and does nothing, and that fits the profile of a politician.”

With over 147,000 Facebook likes, Morris is crushing his running mates like crunchy tuna flakes. According to the Associated Press, in contrast, the leading human competitor has garnered only 33,000 Facebook likes. Throw in a slick website with promo videos, posters, and merchandise, proceeds of which are being donated to animal charities (purrrrr!), and Morris is certainly bringing his A-game to the table.

Morris is not the only animal in Mexico with ambitions for a mayoral office. Other furry candidates include “Tintan the Dog”, “Chon the Donkey”, “Tina the Chicken”, and “Maya the Cat.”

Chamorro explains, “Morris has been a catalyst to show the discontent that exists in our society. Our message from the beginning has been, ‘If none of the candidates represent you, vote for the cat,’ and it seems people are responding to that.”

Morris is not the only feline to have pounced on the political scene. For the past 16 years, Stubbs the Cat has been Mayor of the Alaska town of Talkeetna. And yes, he has his own Facebook page also.

Stop calling vegan food “cruelty-free”

Many vegans proudly proclaim that their food is “cruelty-free” as though issues of justice and injustice begin and end with our use of nonhuman animals.

My Parents Forced Veganism on Me

If vegan parents don’t “force” their vegan values and beliefs on their children, society won’t hesitate to “force” standard American values instead.
