Morrissey Donates Ramsay Goof-up Money to PETA

In 2011, Britain’s Channel 4 made a big mistake when they used The Smiths song, “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want” in a commercial for a Gordon Ramsay cooking special. Morrissey, of “Meat is Murder” fame, has always been a strong supporter of animal rights. Ramsay, on the other hand, is a big fan of serving foie gras.

Naturally, this was not a wise combination, so Morrissey’s legal team set to work to make things right. Morrissey won the settlement, and donated all of the money ($15,000) to PETA U.K. to fund an anti-foie gras ad campaign. He sounds tickled that money tied to Ramsay to helping educate the masses about the cruelty of foie gras.

“Ramsay may very well stick his head in his microwave when he hears that the money I received from Channel 4 because one of my songs was used to promote his Christmas show is being donated to PETA to fight foie gras,” says Morrissey. “Foie gras is so cruelly produced that he’d be against it if he had an ethical bone in his body.”

PETA U.K. greatly appreciate the large donation, and also find amusement in the Ramsay connection. Mimi Bekhechi, PETA U.K. Assistant Director, stated in the press release, “In a way, we have Gordon Ramsay to thank—it was a gaffe involving his show that will fund our efforts to make sure that everyone knows that foie gras comes from the diseased livers of abused birds.”

PETA U.S. has been urging Gordon Ramsay to stop serving foie gras in all of his restaurants after discovering the cruel factory farm from which he orders.
