Abused Pit Bull Gets Second Chance Through Craigslist

Last Friday night, an injured pit bull found her way to a stranger’s porch and, for possibly the first time in her life, the dog was met with love and compassion. The pit bull, who has been named Mama Jade, showed obvious signs of abuse and had clearly been used for dog fights.

The kind stranger used Craigslist to send a poignant message; the initial post reads, “Your pit bull found me, and I’m not giving her back.” In spite of years of abuse and her fear of other dogs, Mama Jade, according to her savior, still loves humans and will “give you slobbery kisses and nuzzle your face with love.”

After being examined by a veterinarian, it was revealed that Mama Jade had cancer and would have to be put down. Her rescuer updated the Craigslist post with an emotional promise.

“Tomorrow, Mama will finally feel peace. And when she closes her eyes and takes her last breath, I’ll be there. I’ll hold her big ol head and tell her how much I love her. And when her soul has left her battered body and I’ve dried the tears enough to see, I will document every bruise, every bite, every cut, scrape and gash. I’ll photograph her teeth, or rather, where her teeth used to be. I’ll turn in the evidence and post it where EVERYONE will see it. I’ll use it to educate kids in heavily crime ridden areas, on the horrors of dog fighting.”

However, to the new owner’s surprise, thousands of emails flooded in that night, all offering support and donations to fund Mama Jade’s expensive treatment. Thanks to the kindness of strangers, Mama Jade has a new chance at a happy life. Her Facebook page, which was set up due to popular demand, received 15,000 likes in the first eight hours.
