He’s known as the piano player in shades on “The Late Show with David Letterman”. Paul Shaffer is a talented man with a great sense of humor, and a big heart for animals, specifically his four shelter dogs.
Teaming up with The Shelter Pet Project, Shaffer made a video for the “Meet My Shelter Pet” ad campaign, introducing the four sweet canines that live with him, all of whom were rescued from an animal shelter. As we meet Riley, Jake, Roo, and Echo, Shaffer and his daughter, Victoria, talk about each of their “sweet” personalities.
“Everyone should have a shelter dog. It’s good for the soul,” Shaffer says. “All four of our dogs have been absolute gems. Why would you want to do anything else but rescue a pet?”
Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of The HSUS, said, “We know that Paul and Victoria’s online video for The Shelter Pet Project will inspire more people to rescue a shelter pet. That outcome will be music to our ears, and to every shelter director in America.”
The Shelter Pet Project is the result of a team effort from the Humane Society of the United States, Maddie’s Fund, and The Ad Council who share a goal to increase pet adoptions through shelters. Their “Meet My Shelter Pet” ad campaign is hoping to break down stigmas surrounding animals from shelters and raise public awareness about these sweet adoptable animals looking for their forever homes. While euthanasia rates have declined by 10% in the ad campaign’s time period, 2.7 million healthy and adoptable pets are still put down every year in overcrowded shelters. The Shelter Pet Project has a goal to bring that number down to zero.
