PETA’s latest campaign proves that a plant-based diet isn’t just for rabbits and sheep. The new ad, which urges viewers to make the switch to veganism to increase their good health and life expectancy, features 78-year-old vegan bodybuilder Jim Morris.

Morris – who used to work as Elton John’s bodyguard – is breaking the age barrier in bodybuilding and is now the most senior face of PETA’s vegan campaign. In a recent interview, Morris, who switched to a vegetarian diet at 65 and a vegan diet at 70, said that he probably would not be alive today without his plant-based diet. While eating meat and diary, he suffered from numerous health problems that drastically lowered his quality of life.

Today, Morris is not only rid of his physical symptoms, but also takes pride in the fact that his lifestyle is no-longer causing harm to animals or the environment. As miraculous as his case seems, studies show that vegetarians and vegans are less likely to suffer from common chronic illnesses than their meat-eating peers. They also live, on average, six to ten years longer.

In addition to participating in PETA’s latest campaign, Morris is also the subject of an upcoming documentary which will be premiering at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
